SHILLONG, MAY 13: Commemorating the birth anniversary of the founder of Nursing, Florence Nightingale, the Nurses Association of Jaintia Hills Unit organized a weeklong Nurses’ Week celebration with the theme: Nurses: “A Force for Change-Care Effective, Cost Effective.”
The Inaugural function was held on May 12 at the conference hall of DM&HO, Jowai. Justine Dkhar, parliamentary secretary graced the occasion as the chief guest and Dr. I. Tongper, District Medical & Health Officer of West Jaintia hills was the guest of honour at the inaugural function. Dr. R. Lamare, DM&HO, East Jaintia hills, Dr. A Paswet, Superintendent of Jowai Civil Hospital, Ialong, doctors and staff nurses were among others present at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Dkhar appreciated the nurses for rendering their selfless service and dedication to the patients. “Nurses are the real sisters of mankind, I found nurses are closer to the patients, they take care of the patients like their own family member and can change the patient’s life with their love and care”, he added. He encouraged them to continue the good work and to carry on their selfless service with a smile. He also wished them success in life.
Dr. I. Tongper, District Medical & Health Officer, Jowai encouraged the nurses not to feel awkward to be posted in far flung areas and further encouraged them to apply all the knowledge they have acquired for the service of the people. He also encouraged them to be available whenever their service is required be at the rural or urban areas and at a same time to be generous and gentle in their words.
Anie VBV Chullet, Tutor, Dr. Norman Tunnel School of Nursing highlighted the importance of the theme in her key note address.
TM Suna, District PHN was also present at the inaugural function and Reliance Shadap, LHV, Ladrymbai proposed the vote of thanks.- By Our Reporter
