SHILLONG, FEB 18: National People’s Party (NPP) state president Dr WR Kharlukhi on Thursday hinted that the party would be fielding its sitting Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem for the bye-election to the Mawryngkneng Assembly seat.
Dr Kharlukhi told reporters that a decision on the matter however is yet to be decided.
“More or less it seems like that but it is yet to be decided…,” Dr Kharlukhi said as he refused to comment any further on the matter.
The bye-election, the dates of which is yet to be announced by the Election Commission, is necessitated following the death of the sitting Congress legislator (L) David A Nongrum on February 2.
Earlier when asked, Syiem who is also the chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council said that he would soon take a call on whether to join the fray.
“I would first have to consult with my supporters before taking a call on this matter,” he told reporters after meeting the chief minister Conrad K Sangma.
