SHILLONG, APR 17: The National People’s Party-led Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC) on Saturday met the Governor Satya Pal Malik for staking claim to form the new executive committee in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
The GHDC comprises 11 MDCs from the NPP, 1 from the Garo National Council (GNC) and 3 are Independents.
Interestingly, the BJP, which is one of the coalition partners of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, was kept out of the newly formed coalition in the GHADC.
The delegation led by Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma submitted the names of the 15 MDCs to the Governor during the meeting held at Raj Bhavan here.
“We have briefed the Governor about all the details and the new coalition to be termed as GHDC,” Conrad said.
He informed that the coalition has unanimously decided that Benedict Marak, who is also an MLA, to be new chief executive member (CEM) and Rakesh A Sangma as the new chairman of the GHADC while Nikman Marak as the deputy chief executive member (Dy.CEM).
“We have also decided to come up with the common minimum programmes (of the coalition which will be released very soon),” the chief minister said.
Meanwhile as directed by the Governor, the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected members of the GHADC will be held on April 19. Election to the post of Chairman will be held on April 21.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has been asked to preside over both the meetings of the GHADC.
