Leaders and workers of the National People’s Party (NPP) in East Jaintia Hills District on Saturday have decided to work hard for ensuring victory to the party candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh from the Shillong parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the NPP national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar at the residence of party legislator from Sutnga-Saipung Santa Mary Shylla. Also present were Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, MDCs and other party functionaries.
“Leaders of East Jaintia Hills have unanimously decided to work hard to ensure the official candidate of the party wins from the Shillong parliamentary seat,” Dhar said after the meeting.
Lyngdoh will be contesting against three-time sitting Congress MP Vincent H Pala.
The United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) under the banner of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) had announced decision to field former HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin as its candidate while the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) had announced the name of its general secretary Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon as its candidate from the Shillong seat.
NEHUTA president Prof Lakhon Kma had also expressed keen interest to join the fray.
The BJP however is still undecided on the candidates for both Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats.
