BJP MDC from Tura Bernard N Marak on Wednesday said that NPP Chief Conrad Sangma and NPP MP candidate Agatha Sangma should initiate a reconciliation meet with the BJP karyakartas in Garo Hills (Tura) to clear the doubts and confusion.
“As the election nears, the BJP workers feel unwanted and betrayed by some leaders who did not take time to unite the Karyakartas on the ground. The direction of the BJP National President is honoured by the State leaders but to get support on the ground, NPP should meet the grassroot workers of Garo Hills in the Tura Regional Office,” Marak said in a statement.
“Some leaders are negotiating with the NPP leaders for personal benefits while others want good posts in the government but majority are left unattended. The sentiments of the Karyakartas are gravely hurt by the way NPP treated BJP in last few years like an opposition, discriminating the grassroot workers in every village. Karyakartas wants assurance that BJP members will treat BJP with honour and respect with equal status. After the direction came from the centre, BJP workers found themselves on a crossroad because NPP treated BJP as an opposition and Congress and TMC were natural opposition,” he said.
“So, the Karyakartas feel there should be a reconciliation meet between the BJP and NPP to defuse the tension on the ground otherwise many Karyakartas might be inactive this election,” he added.
