Notice on KHADC polls

SHILLONG, AUG 30: The Meghalaya High Court on Tuesday served two-day time to the state government and the KHADC to file their affidavits to a PIL filed against the alleged delay in holding fresh elections to the six seats to the KHADC. In its order issued on Tuesday, the high court said, “Looking to the urgency of the matter, the affidavits ought to be filed within two days maximum.

The high court also added, ““As we have already indicated that every single day passing in this matter is directly contradicting the basic rules of democracy, we find no reason to grant any longer time in this matter for filing affidavits to the respondents.”

The next hearing on the matter has been fixed on September 1.

The PIL was filed by one Cherubin Thongni, who had alleged that government has not taken requisite steps for holding of fresh elections for the constituencies under the KHADC which are unrepresented after resignations of six MDCs.-By Our Reporter
