SHILLONG, AUG 14: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has issued show-cause notice to its vice president James Ban Basaiawmoit, who is also the party’s sitting MDC from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency for his alleged anti-party activity.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the central disciplinary committee (CDC) of the party held recently to discuss on Basaiawmoit’s statement in a local news channel where he had indicated that he would contest the 2018 elections from newly floated People Democratic Front (PDF).
“While the party is not stopping you from taking any decision however your indication to join the PDF without informing the party is a violation against the Article XIX (f) of the party’s constitution,” CDC chairman MA Neng said in the letter to Basaiawmoit on Monday.
Basaiawmoit was also alleged of violating article XX (3) of the constitution besides failing to attend meetings of the party.
With regards to the MDC’s allegation that people are losing confident on the KHNAM, Neng said that this is just an attempt to mislead the people.
He reminded Basaiawmoit when he lost in two elections while contesting from the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) and the Congress party.
“It was only when you joined and contested for elections from the KHNAM, people supported you. Again when you left the party and joined the United Democratic Party (UDP) and came back to the party, people then still voted for you,” he said.
The Committee further asked the sitting MDC to clarify on these points and why should not action be taken against him for violating the constitution of the party.
