GUWAHATI, OCT 13: North East United FC (NEUFC) went past Kerala Blasters FC by a solitary goal to clinch its first game  in the second Hero Indian Super League match at the Indira Gandhi stadium on Monday night. Playing before the home crowd, Sergio Contreras Pardo, scored the only goal of the match in first half stoppage time to sent the fans into wild rapture.

The Spanish midfielder made the most of the poor clearance by the Kerala defenders by pursuing the ball and putting it into the net past former England goalkeeper David James.

Though Kerala Blasters did give some anxious moment at the start even as  Joan Capdevila wasted a free kick in the first minute of the game. The Kerala Blasters had the major share of the ball possession and in the 16th minute Iain Hume had even netted the ball only to be ruled offside.

NorthEast United FC’s former Greece international goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas was the wall as he stoutly refused to be beaten. He was voted ‘Hero of the match’.

The first half of the match didn’t produce any excitement except when Durga Boro got the crowd nervous with a long range shot but James made a fantastic save.

With their first match on their pocket, the NorthEast United FC will now host Atletico de Kolkata on October 16. – From Our Correspondent
