National People’s Party (NPP) state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday denied that there is any pressure on the party to allot a ticket to former Mawhati legislator Dasakhiat Lamare from Shillong parliamentary constituency.
“No not at all. I am not aware. I don’t know from where you got this information but my report (on this) is no,” Tynsong told reporters.
His statement came in the wake of reports alleging division among the party leaders after the deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar wanted the party to allot a ticket to his nephew and former Mawhati legislator Dasakhiat Lamare.
Sources said that some of the party leaders were not happy with the proposal from the Dhar group.
Tynsong however informed that the party is likely to announce its candidates for the Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats within this month.
According to him, there are over 5-6 ticket aspirants for the Shillong seat. As for the Tura seat, sitting MP Agatha K Sangma is all set to seek re-election in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, slated to be held next year.
