SHILLONG, FEB 19: Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) education cell has demanded uninterrupted power supply from the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) during the examinations of the students in the state.
KSU delegation led by its education secretary Donald V Thabah met the MeECL (Distribution) Director C Kharkrang recently to put its demand for uninterrupted power supply during examination ns.
“We had demanded the MeECL to ensure that there is no power disruption during the examinations which include SSLC and HSSLC conducted by the MBOSE, besides others,” Thabah said.
According to Thabah, the union demand comes because of frequent power cuts and load-shedding during the previous year affecting the studies of the students which affected their performances during their exams.
There was hue and cry among the citizens of the state because of unprecedented load shedding last year.
Thabah said, “Though it is true that this year, we have not really encountered any problem of power cuts so far. But still we are apprehensive and would like the authority concerned to reassure that such problem do not happen this time especially taking into consideration the interests and welfare of the students’ community.”
Stating that the outcome of the meeting was satisfactory, Thabah further informed that the Director had assured the union that there will be no load shedding this year.
On the complaints relating to the frequent power cuts in rural areas, the MeECL director reportedly clarified that the problem is because of power disruption due to overloading of the sub-stations and assured the KSU that soon new sub stations would be put in place.
Meanwhile, the KSU also wished good luck to the students appearing the different examinations in the state.- By Our Reporter
