SHILLONG, JAN 27: The Meghalaya government is set to announce the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) election date soon, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge district council affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday.

“Once the government and cabinet take a decision, you’ll know,” Tynsong told reporters.

With the GHADC term ending on April 18, Tynsong ruled out postponement, stating, “The question of postponement doesn’t arise. The election process has to be completed before that.”

On the SIR demand in Garo Hills, Tynsong said it’s up to the Election Commission.

“We’ll implement it once we receive the notification. I think that’s a welcoming step,” he added.
