SHILLONG, MAY 19:  The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on  Thursday claimed it is a better “alternative” to the the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)  and said the saffron party will have no place in Meghalaya in the 2018-state elections.

“The BJP has no place and the APP should be an alternative in the upcoming 2018 assembly elections,” AAP national observer for NE states Habung Payeng told reporters on Thursday.

Accusing the BJP of trying to impose the policy of the RSS in the north eastern region, he said, “They say don’t take beef or don’t dress like this and like that… such ideology will not suit in Meghalaya.”

The AAP leader claimed that policies of his party is different from other political parties. “Ours is pro-public and pro-people. We are here to change the system,” he stated.

Alleging that there are too many corruptions in the system of the Congress regime, Payeng said, “Corruption is what we would like to change and expect to slowly win over the people’s heart since many people contest election not to serve the public but to earn money.”

According to him, both Congress and the BJP have failed to live up to the expectation of the people.

“The Acha Din or Good Days promised by the Prime Minister Narenda Modi have not come till today and in fact problem of inflation is going up,” he said while claiming that AAP ruling in Delhi had fulfilled its promises only within a span of 9 days after being elected to power.

The AAP national observer arrived in the city to reconstitute the preparatory state level party Executive Committee in order to activate the party in the state of Meghalaya.

The exercise was necessitated due to the resignation of the state coordinator Iuklit Uriah.

“We have passed a resolution to unanimously constitute a 13 member executive committee,” Payeng said adding it is expected that the new committee will gear up organizational activities at the grass root level.

He said the committee will be conducting elections right from the district level down to block and booth level.

The national observer also informed that several issues concerning the state were also discussed during the meeting.

Meanwhile, Wanshwa Nongtdu has been elected as the new state coordinator of the AAP Meghalaya while Iuklit Uriah as chief advisor, Amborssius Lyngdoh as treasurer and 10 executive members.-By Our Reporter
