SHILLONG, NOV 24:A Nigerian national was arrested from Delhi by Meghalaya police after he duped a woman from Shillong of Rs 12 lakhs after befriending her through a social networking site. “We have arrested Chazurike Uche Click from Tigri, T.Point, New Delhi,” East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang told reporters on Monday.
Kharkhrang informed that the on November 6, the police receive an FIR from Kynton Massar of Mawlai that she had been chatting with a Facebook friend Eric Jack who introduce himself as a UK National. During the chat, Jack promised her parcels containing valuables and some money.
Later she received a call from a Courier Company and also from other agencies stating that she had to deposit money for obtaining the parcels and money. Kharkhrang said, “She then started depositing money which amounting to Rs 12 lakhs on various occasions and in different accounts.”
However, when Kynton was asked to deposit more money she realize she had been duped and then reported to the police.
Kharkrang said a team led by Inspector DB Lamare, officer in charge of Mawlai police station and Inspector BK Mishra, the OC of Laban police station immediately left for Delhi and they managed to track the money trail to Chazurike Uche Click of Tigri, T.Point, New Delhi.
Chazurike was arrested and brought to Shillong on Monday on transit remand from Ld. court of Sanjay Khanagwal, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Patila House Court, New Delhi, Kharkhrang informed.
Kharkrang said that he was forwarded to court which remanded him to 5 days police custody. He termed the arrest as a major breakthrough for the police to ascertain the modus operandi adopted by the criminals of foreign origin.- By Our Reporter
