SHILLONG, APR 25: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Road) Prestone Tynsong has informed that the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) will prepare an action plan to prevent recurrence of landslide at Rngain along the Shillong-Dawki road.
After chairing a meeting here on Tuesday, Tynsong told reporters that the landslide prone area was discussed and they have identified a few areas and how to take care as it is so dangerous with the coming of the monsoons.
“We already discussed all the details. The technical people from the NHIDCL will prepare an action plan on how to go about it and to make sure a dedicated team for any emergency work is there 24×7,” he said.
The decision has been taken after two persons have died following a recent massive landslide at Rngain.
Asked if action is being taken against the contractor, the deputy chief minister said, “I was informed by the NHIDCL that cancellation has already been done against ARSS due to poor progress of work. So the head office of NHIDCL has already terminated the contract agreement with the ARSS, which are implementing the package-II which is from Mylliem till the bypass Pynursla.”
Earlier before the meeting, Tynsong informed that the traffic has been allowed to move at Rngain. However, clearing of the road is still taking place at night time and will be completed in the next few more days.
“So the SDO Civil has already restricted the movement during night time and the public is advised not to move through this junction because it is not that safe. So right now the clearing is still on and they do that during night time only. Let us see for another few days maybe till the end of this week things hopefully will improve,” he said.
Further, Tynsong also informed that he had already instructed the NHIDCL to engage experts from Geological Survey of India and IIT, Guwahati and now they have already done that.
“I think the Geological Survey of India team also has visited that place so of course I don’t know what is the detailed report given by them so we are waiting. I have already instructed NHIDCL to take necessary steps to make sure that such an unfortunate incident does not reoccur again in the near future,” he added.
Meanwhile, package-I, package-4 and package 5 were also discussed during the meeting, which has asked the NHIDCL to immediately start the retendering process for these packages of the Shillong-Dawki road.
