Shillong, Sept 3: Pressurising the government to fulfill its demand of implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, ten ngos staged a sit-in-protest at the parking lot opposite the BSNL office Monday even as it demanded that all the sixty legislators of the state should take up this issue in the upcoming assembly session.
Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) working president Joe Marwein told reporters, “We want all the 60 elected representatives of the state to discuss and debate on the need for the implementation of the ‘Inner Line Permit’ in the upcoming sessions of the state.”
The ngos have the state government for the seen demanding peedy implementation of the ILP to check and control influx that is posing a threat to the indigenous population of the state. Marwein said, “If the state government fails to pass the ILP as an act in the Assembly, we will sit and decide on our future course of actions.”
Marwein informed that the FKJGP had earlier met the Opposition Leader Conrad K Sangma, UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh and other political leaders and asked them to take this issue in the upcoming state Assembly sessions.- By Our Reporter
