SHILLONG, MAR 1: Two ngos from Jaintia hills on Tuesday threatened to intensify agitations against the state government’s failure to make public the report of the probe of the September 24-2014 Mookhep firing incident which killed two civilians.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the Jaintia National Council (JNC) and Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) have also questioned the failure of the Congress leaders to hold similar protest against the Mukul government which had delayed to ensure that justice is delivered to families of the firing incident victims.
According to them, the Congress leaders from the state were seen actively participating at the protest of the students in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) but failed to so the same on such issue which is affecting the people of the state.
“We have decided to intensify our agitations to pressurize the state government to immediately make public the report of the firing incident,” JNC chairman Sambormi Lyngdoh said.
He alleged that the delay on the matter clearly indicated that the state government is trying to shield those having in hand in the shooting dead of the two civilians – D Siangshai and S Phawa.
“We are further surprised by the attitude of the Congress leaders here who are ready to take the pain to go to Delhi for joining the protest by the JNU students,” HANM president Shaniah Suchen said.
He said, “But it is unfortunate that when it comes to issue concerning our own people these same leaders are showing that they are not at all interest.”-By Our Reporter
