SHILLONG, APR 1: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) and the Garo Students Union (GSU) on Friday demanded the immediate holding of election of the new office bearers of the Tura Government College Students’ Union (TGCSU).
In a letter to the Director Higher & Technical Education through the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner, leaders of the two organizations said that the FKJGP TGC Cell and the GSU Tura Government College Cell held a meeting along with the students on March 30, in the college premises and had unanimously passed a resolution seeking immediate election for TGCSU members.
They said there has been no activity of the TGCSU in the past one and a half year, however and regardless the students have been made to pay the session fees without the exclusion of the deduction made for the TGCSU and its activities for the last three academic years.
“The students of Tura Government College are clueless as to how the amounts of money we are mandated to pay the Union through our admission fees are being managed however. It is also in this context we feel it will be desirable that the TGCSU elections are conducted regularly on an annual basis,” the letter stated.
