SHILLONG, JUNE 14: Congress MDC from Saipung Arbor H Darnei was elected unopposed as the new chairman of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on Tuesday during a special session. Deputy chairman H Bareh declared that Darnei has been elected unopposed to the post since there were nobody who filed nomination.
Before contesting the chairman post, Darnei had resigned as the executive member.
The election was necessitated following the resignation of former chairman Laitsing Shylla last month.
Speaking during the felicitation ceremony, the newly elected chairman sought the support of all members and assured that he would try his best to work and contribute towards the welfare of the council.
JHADC chief Thombor Shiwat, his deputy A Shullai besides other members including from the opposition bench congratulated the new chairman.-By Our Reporter
