SHILLONG, FEB 6: Meghalaya is likely to get a new and full-fledged Governor after the Delhi assembly elections on February 7. As of now, the West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi is also holding charge as the governor of this hill state.
Tripathi was appointed Meghalaya governor after Krishan Kant Paul was transferred as Uttarakhant governor by the BJP led NDA government. Kant, who is a retired IPS officer, was appointed by the Congress government and had succeeded RS Mooshahary.
Seven post of Governor are lying vacant across the country now and the BJP government at the centre is likely to fill all the posts post-Delhi assembly elections. It is also learnt that the BJP government at the centre is most likely to appoint former bureaucrats and retired policemen as governor for the remaining seven posts.
After the BJP government came to power in 2014 at the centre, it appointed 11 governors and all except one were BJP politicians. Only the Kerala Raj Bhavan went to former CJI P Sathasivam. Governors of all other ten states appointed by the Modi government were BJP veterans such as Ram Naik, KN Tripathi, OP Kohli, BD Tandon, Vidyasagar Rao, Kalyan Singh, Padmanabha Acharya, KS Solanki, VR Vala and Mridula Sinha. – By Our Reporter
