SHILLONG, JULY 1: Former Delhi police commissioner Krishan Kant Paul will replace RS Mooshahary as the new Meghalaya governor. The term of Mooshahary came to an end on Sunday and the union government has appointed Paul as the new Meghalaya governor.
Incidentally outgoing governor Mooshahary was also a former IPS officer and the Paul, the governor designate, is also an IPS officer.
Mooshahary, an IPS officer of the 1967 batch, has completed his five years as Meghalaya governor.
Paul is an IPS officer who joined in 1970 and was allocated to the UT (AGMUT) cadre.
Apart from Paul, President Pranab Mukherjee also appointed Lt. General AK Singh (Retd.) as the new Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in place of Lt. General Bhopinder Singh (Retd.), Najeeb Jung as the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi in place of Tejendra Khanna, and Virendra Kataria as the Lt. Governor of Puducherry in place of Iqbal Singh.
Mooshahary assumed the office of governor on July 1, 2008 during the then Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) coalition government headed by UDP president Donkupar Roy as the chief minister.
A former chief of the National Security Guards (NSG) and the Border Security Force (BSF), Mooshahary made headlines recently, when, as visitor to the CMJ University, brought to light various alleged irregularities in the functioning of the private varsity.
Mooshahary had also suggested to the Meghalaya government to dissolve the CMJ University for its alleged malfunctioning. – By Our Reporter
