Shillong, Dec 3: The North East Students’ Organization (NESO) has decided to explore all possibilities to fight the menace of illegal migration to the north east and raise this issue with the concerned state governments and the central government and to work out modalities according to the prevailing situation in the particular state.
The decision was taken at the fifth general conference of NESO held at Kohima from November 27 to 30.
The conference was of the opinion that the issue of illegal infiltration of foreigners has been and is still a very serious threat to the identity and security of the indigenous peoples of the region.
Even though, the NESO and the constituent organizations have taken this issue earlier , the conference, however, felt that more pro active steps on war footing needs to be taken up by NESO in general and member organisations in particular.
The conference also deliberated on education scenario in the different states of north east.
The conference was of the opinion that the present system is predominantly a formal form of education so the NESO felt that the system must also include and introduce more importantly job oriented courses, introduction of vocational institutes, education should be location specific and the curriculum should include the traditional values like culture, history and geography. – By Our Reporter
