SHILLONG, APRIL 23: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) has urged patients to avail the benefits of the AMRIT pharmacy which has been set up in the premises of the institute.
The appeal was made in compliance with the advisory issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to central government hospitals and medical institutionos relating to purchase of medicines by poor patients.
Public relations officer (PRO) of the institute Dr KK Pandita in a statement issued on Tuesday said NEIGRIHMS has established the AMRIT Pharmacy on the ground floor near Orthopedics OPD, where patients can get medicines/disposables at discounted rates, and for the costly items like Cardiac stents, Pacemakers, Cancer drugs etc. of a particular size/brand.
He said, if not available, patients can put an order in the pharmacy, which has assured NEIGRIHMS authorities to make it available in next 48 hours.
“All patients admitted in NEIGRIHMS are therefore advised to avail the benefits of discounts from AMRIT Pharmacy located in NEIGRIHMS hospital,” Dr Pandita said.
The ministry in its advisory had asked all Central government hospitals, institutions, autonomous bodies to suitably instruct the poor patients to avail the facilities of affordable medicines from Government pharmacies, like Jan Aushadi Pharmacy and AMRIT Store located in the hospital premises so that poor patients are not unnecessarily subjected to harassment by sometimes paying double the cost of the same medicines from private drug dealers from the open market.
