SHILLONG, DEC 21: The state government today decided to allot two power projects at Umduna and Umjot to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).
Addressing newsmen after a cabinet meeting held here on Thursday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said, “We have decided that these two power projects will be developed by the NEEPCO.”
Earlier, the cabinet had approved the cancellation of the agreement signed with private developers for the two projects at Umduna and Umjot, since they have failed to proceed for development of the projects.
Sangma said they had also earlier decided that the projects will either be allotted to the MeECL or the NEEPCO.
According to him, today’s decision was after the Cabinet had approved allotment of a 210 megawatt (MW) Myntdu Leshka Hydro Power Project – Stage II besides 15 power projects to the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
