SHILLONG, JAN 28: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday said that the state government has always stayed away from interfering into the affairs of the autonomous district councils (ADCs).
“…we will (continue) to maintain that even now,” Sangma said when asked about the current political turmoil in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
A No-confidence motion will be taken up against the Chief Executive Member (CEM) Benedic Marak during a special session to be held on Saturday.
When asked, Sangma informed that the government has received letters from the chairman of the council as well as from different members regarding the resignation of nine executive members (EMs) besides a note asking for a special session to take up the NC against the CEM.
He said based on those letters that have come in, the matter was referred to the Governor.
“The Governor based on his power under para 36 (5) has gone ahead and asked for the special session to be called where the NC will be held and the CEM will have to proof his majority,” the chief minister said adding now let the democratic process follow.
