SHILLONG, DEC 6: “Native Fiesta”, a festival aimed at promoting Meghalaya as the most favoured tourist destination will be held for the first time on March next year. The theme will be “Awakening of socio-economic, cultural, political identity and natural sustainable tourism” and will be held at Umiam. The organizer Ri Bhoi Tourism & Environment Development Forum (RBTEDF) president Plielad Tiewsoh said, “The two-day festival seeks to attract tourists from across the country and outside.”
He also said he is concerned over the sudden disappearance of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF), which used to organize the annual Autumn Festival in the state.
“We feel concern as such festival is important in showcasing the rich potentials of the state in the tourism industry,” he said while adding this led the organization to organize the native fiesta.
He said the proposed expenditure for the festival comes to around Rs 50 lakh, Tiewsoh informed that they would seek the support of the state government, Ministry of Tribal Affairs and DoNER Ministry through the North Eastern Council (NEC).
