SHILLONG, OCT 26: Shillong Lajong FC and Nangkiew Irat played a goalless draw in the return fixture of the Shillong Premier League encounter at the JN stadium on Monday afternoon.
The first half started off brightly for Lajong who were eyeing on another win to keep their winning streak record intact. The youngsters of Lajong pressed hard to find the opening goal but were not lucky enough to convert their chances in the early stages of the match.
Nangkiew Irat were also giving Lajong a tough fight and found their first chance of the match in the 24th minute but the shot taken by their striker was tipped over the bar by Lajong custodian Vishal for a corner.
One of the best chances for Lajong came in the 29th minute when Issac fed the ball to Lalramuanna who took a shot on goal that went straight to the keeper. The keeper could not handle the ball and it bounced back to Sheen who headed the ball towards goal but it hit the bar and eventually cleared away for a corner by the opponent.
The first half ended all square with no goals scored.
Both teams came back in the second half eager to get the better off the other. Lajong continued to dominate possession but they lacked quality in the final third. It wasn’t the best day for Lajong strikers as they hit the post for the second time after a free kick was taken by Samuel Lalmuanpuia at the edge of the box in the 59th minute. Nangkiew could have created better chances for themselves, but Lajong’s defence was resolute.
In the end, it was a good day for the goalkeepers of both teams as they managed to earn a clean sheet each with more saves made by the Nangkiew Irat custodian.
Lajong still remain on top spot in the league with 27 points and will play their next match against Langsning FC on October 30.-By Our Reporter
