My sister was harassed for dowry: Pinky’s brother

Shillong, August 22: The delay in submission of the post mortem report by the Shillong Civil Hospital has become a hurdle in establishing the cause of death of Pinky Rai. The body was sent to Shillong civil hospital August 17 and handed over the relatives of the deceased on August 18 after post mortem was conducted.
However, Madanrynthing police said that the post mortem report to establish the death of Pinky Rai is yet to be furnished to them by the Shillong Civil hospital authority. A police officer said, “Normally, the post mortem report is given two days after the body is sent to the hospital.”
In the absence of the post mortem report, the police cannot establish the cause that led to Pinky’s death. The delay is, therefore, hampering police investigation. The police will first have to establish whether Pinky death was due to drowning or she was murdered.
Meanwhile, Shivnath Rai, brother of Pinky’s husband Pappu Rai, claimed that the relationship between Pinky and her in-laws were fine. Shivnath had filed a missing person FIR on the day Pinky’s body was found.
Shivnath said that they are all praying that their one and half year old nephew who had disappeared along with his mother is found so that it established that Pinky’s death was an “accident” and not because of “foul” play as being suspected.
However, Pinky’s brother Pankaj Rai who had arrived from Bihar and had subsequently filed a counter FIR alleged that his sister was harassed by the in-laws for dowry and, therefore, he suspected a foul play.
Pankaj said that Pinky had stayed in Shillong for a couple of months earlier and later returned to Bihar. He informed that after delivering the baby boy, she had come back and was staying in Shillong for the past three months before she died.
Meanwhile, the one and half year’s old son of Pinky still remained untraced even as police is trying to find his whereabouts. – By Our Reporter
