Shillong, Oct 1: GNLA chairman lawyer Sujit Dey has request Meghalaya chief secretary WMS Pariat to grant him permission for filing a civil and criminal defamation cases against Kulbir Krishan, director general of jail, for defaming him.
Taking strong exception to the allegation that he had bribed the Shillong district jail staff and UTPs made by Krishan, Dey said, ”I was shocked to see and do not acknowledge the DG’s allegations, I would welcome an independent enquiry as the statement is false, malicious and aimed with an intention to defame me and my professional reputation, these are rubbish allegations”.
Dey informed informed that he has requested the chief secretary to grant him sanction as early as possible for prosecution of the DG (prison) under various sections of law on civil and criminal defamation cases.
Dey also informed that he has apprised the bar association on the statement made by the DG against a practicing lawyer. I suppose that the report that was reported by the media is confidential, so how could it be made public.”
Defending his client Champion Sangma- who is still an Under Trail Prisoner (UTP) -right to wear costly clothes, Dey said, “Nowhere in the manual it is written that the UTP cannot wear costly or own clothes.”
Champion Sangma’s wife, Enritha N Marak, also defended Dey by rubbishing the allegation against the lawyer asfalse. She said in a telephonic conversation to reporter that she has paid very less amount to the lawyer and, “I do not think he will bribe with money from his pocket.”
Marak also said she condemned the DG (jail) statement that said Champion Sangma was preparing to escape from jail by saying Krishan appears to be trying to divert the attention.
Marak asserted that her husband is not a “coward he will not run away” and said let the public decide why he deserted the police force, giving an indication that people’s verdict would be final in the coming 2013 election when her husband will be contesting the election.-By Our Reporter
