SHILLONG, MAR 4: Forty-seven years old chief minister designate Mukul Sangma appears to be the lone one to be sworn in on Tuesday at 11 am if sources from the Congress and Raj Bhavan are to be believed. The other eleven cabinet ministers will be sworn in later and both the sources are saying it could be on Friday.
A Congress legislator who had gone with Sangma to Delhi also said that the cabinet ministers will be sworn in later and only the chief minister will be administered the oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday.
However a senior Congress party worker told this website that the name of Rowell Lyngdoh, HDR Lyngdoh, Deborah Marak, Dr RC Laloo and one more legislator is also doing the round but they may or may not be sworn in along with the chief minister designate.
A senior Raj Bhavan officer said, “The list of the other ministers can be send late night or even tomorrow early in the morning. But as of now only the name of the chief minister designate is there.”
For a change the swearing in ceremony of the chief minister will be administered in the sprawling lawn of the Raj Bhavan by Governor RS Mooshahary instead in the durbar hall which used to be a fixed place for administering the oath of office earlier.
Till 8 pm on Monday, the only name that was in the list of Raj Bhavan to be sworn in on Tuesday was that of the chief minister designate Mukul Sangma.
Sources also said two out of the four women legislators will get a cabinet berth.
If Sangma is sworn in alone on Tuesday, it will only strengthen the believe that something serious is brewing within the Congress. If there are many contenders for cabinet berth, there are also senior legislators eyeing for the top job of the CM.
Besides veteran leaders Marak and DD Lapang, there are also others much junior to the two who also sees themselves as chief ministerial material and Prestone Tynson is one of the. – By Suraj Joshi & Evanjopline Dkhar
