Mukul terms NPP govt as ‘surrogate govt’

SHILLONG, JAN 28: Opposition AITC legislature party leader and leader of opposition Mukul Sangma on Friday said there is a need to remove the surrogate NPP-led MDA government.

Addressing a huge crowd at Phulbari, Sangma lambasted the MDA government for selling the aspirations of the people of Meghalaya by giving away the land to Assam.

“I witnessed how the MDA government forcibly transferred land to Assam, but the moment has come to protect our land peacefully. First and foremost, we must remove this surrogate government before we can move forward and resolve our issues amicably. This is only attainable through the power of the vote,” Dr. Sangma said, while urging people to vote for TMC.

He also expressed confidence in forming the government and listed the priorities of the party including the employment of youth.

He said,”It is disheartening to see that nothing has improved in the last five years. This area is in desperate need of development. Our children are in pain. It is time to unite together and bring about change by bringing TMC into power.”

Sangma also held another public meeting in Rongjeng, East Garo Hills.

While addressing a sea of supporters, he said, “We can feel the pulse and we can see the desire and enthusiasm of all the foot soldiers of the party. The huge attendance of supporters from the remotest parts of Meghalaya is evidence of people’s desire for change. The change is happening, and it is in the air. We are just looking forward to the day.”

The Meghalaya TMC leader also criticized the NPP and other parties for their comments on Meghalaya TMC’s visionary We Card and MYE Card, saying, “NPP’s priorities do not revolve around the greater good of people, neither towards the welfare of people, state, or vulnerable sections of society, or the larger interest of the state.”

He also stated that the spirit of democracy obligates a political party to keep all of its manifesto promises and that the Meghalaya TMC will keep all of its promises and keep the democratic spirit alive.

Earlier while addressing the people of Mawshynrut, Sangma took a jibe at the inept NPP-led MDA government over failing to take appropriate steps to resume coal mining in the state. He said, “Only promises are being given in every election, but they don’t live up to them. The people of this land who are supposed to be rich are grieving and suffering under this government.”

“Don’t we remember what was said in the 2018 elections? Didn’t they say that they will resume coal mining within 6 months of forming the government? Therefore, we will have to give a judgment to the corrupt-NPP government today,” remarked Dr. Mukul while launching a scathing attack on the Conrad-led government.
