Mukul meets Rajnath Singh

SHILLONG, JUNE 23: Meghalaya  chief minister Mukul Sangma met union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday and discussed issues that include law and order situation in Meghalaya.

During the meeting, Sangma sought centre’s intervention on the need to constitute the Boundary Commission to resolve the age old inter-state border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam. He also took up the issue of signing of final settlement with ANVC followed by elections to Garo hills district council.

On the law and order, Sangma put forth proposal for upgradation of police establishment and infrastructure in Garo hills besides the need for strengthening the police establishment in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills.

Sangma also urged the centre on the need to raise two additional battalions of India Reserve Battalion and extension of deployment of 15 companies of CPMF. He sought additional funds of Rs 28.8 crore under Modernisation of Police Forces Scheme, over and above the usual entitlement to support state besides special forces unit for weapons, ammunition, mobility, equipment, clothing & communication support

Sangma also discussed the need for expanding the scope of special programme for Indo Bangladesh border for setting up of residential schools with focus on vocational and technical skills.- By Our Reporter
