SHILLONG, SEPT 25: The Meghalaya State Women Commission (MSWC) has summoned the women organization (Seng Longkmie) of Pynthor locality tomorrow in connection with the recent assault on three girls.
“We have summoned the Seng Longkmie of the locality and also the victims tomorrow on the incident,” MSWC chairperson Theilin Phanbuh told reporters here on Monday.
Stating that the Commission has taken serious note on the incident after a complaint was received from Lamjingshai Society, Shillong, she however said, “We will hear from both sides before taking a decision on the matter.”
It may be mentioned here the three girls were publicly assaulted with scissor when a group of women from the locality tonsured their hair besides beating them with a stick.
The incident took place at 11.30 pm on September 14.
Based on a video clipping of the inhumane act, the Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) president Agnes Kharshiing immediately filed an FIR with the officer in charge of Pasteur Beat House, Polo Shillong.
The video clipping received by the organization, clearly shown how the girls were beaten with a stick and their hair tonsured with scissor.
Kharshiing also urged the authority concerned to take immediate action against those responsible for tonsuring and assaulting the girls with a scissor and stick, outraging their modesty as women and humiliating them.
“Because if this is allowed it could set precedence for others to take law in their own hands,” she stated in the complaint.
