MPYC defends CM

TURA, SEPT 21: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has refuted the allegation levelled by sitting MDC of Babelapara Besterfield N. Sangma that he was denied Congress party ticket for the upcoming district council poll slated for October 12 on the direction of chief minister Mukul Sangma.

Besterfield had alleged that chief minister Mukul Sangma had directed the party not to issue him ticket.

In a statement issued on Monday, MPYC president Richard Marak said, “I, myself being from Babelapara, and active in the activities of the area, know the pulse of the people. The people of Babelapara constituency trust the Congress to field the right candidate.

Marak asserted that the present party candidate is also trusted by the people of the constituency as capable to represent the people in GHADC ,maybe even more so than the previous representative.”

Marak also said Besterfield allegation is false laced with vested interest. “Besterfield has a history of going against his benefactors and well wishers, which only show the extent to which he will stoop to achieve his ambitions. Dragging the chief minister’s name for such issues is uncalled for and in bad taste and shows the true colours of an opportunist”, he added.

Congress has fielded Christilla Marak for Babelapara constituency, where her former husband Admiral Sangma, a four time MLA is contesting as an Independent candidate.- From Our Correspondent
