SHILLONG, MARCH 06: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has asked its newly-elected MLAs to embrace the party manifesto and work towards fulfilling the commitments made in it to ensure the speedy development of the state in the next five years.
The MPCC held a meeting with the new legislators on Wednesday and asked them to ensure a close coordination between the government and the party. “We have asked them to be sincere and live up to the commitments and assurances of the party made in the manifesto… No legislator should a stranger to the manifesto,” MPCC president D. D. Lapang told reporters after the meeting.
The meeting also expressed happiness over the election of Mukul Sangma as the CLP leader of the party. “We have assured him to work together and provide a meaningful and fruitful leadership,” he said. The former chief minister, however, refused to reveal the names being discussed for the post of the Assembly speaker.
Admitting that it would be difficult to satisfy everyone while forming the cabinet, Lapang said it is the prerogative of the chief minister to select his ministerial team even though all the elected MLAs can justifiably claim a berth in the cabinet. (By Our Reporter)
