SHILLONG, APR 12: HSPDP legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit alleged that the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) has diverted the funds provided by the government for coaching classes for civil service examinations adding this tantamount to “breach of confidence” against the government.
“The MLCU has failed to utilized the financial assistance provided by the government and instead diverted the funds for other activities,” Basaiawmoit told the state assembly on Friday.
According to Basaiawmoit as per the letter from HRD of the North Eastern Council the grant of Rs 10 lakh has instead been budgeted for the construction of boundary wall by the MLCU. He questioned the university for misleading the government and wanted to know from the government whether an enquiry would be set up on the diversion of fund issue.
Responding to Basaiawmoit chief minister Mukul Sangma however said that the government has not received any such information but assured that the allegation brought up on the floor of the house will be examined. He said if the allegation is found to be true necessary action will be taken.
Sangma, however, admitted that Rs 10 lakh had been sanctioned as financial assistance to MLCU for the purpose of conducting coaching classes for Civil Service Examinations beside Medical Entrance examinations.
Informing that the University has already submitted the utilization certificate on the matter, Sangma said of the total amount, Rs 52,883 has so far been utilized which is reflected as part of the expenditure adding the university has also written as to how the balance amount of Rs 9 lakh would be spend.- By Our Reporter
