Minor girl among 2 dies of COVID-19, death toll rises to 108

 Aplhinia Umsong (5) from Mawkhap village under Pynursla civil sub-division passed away at the Ganesh Das government maternal and child health hospital on Friday while 45-year-old Haricharan Das of Lower New Colony, Shillong died at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) hospital on Thursday, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.

Umsong was tested positive for COVID-19 on being admitted at the hospital. “She however passed away due to acute gastroenteritis with severe dehydration with COVID-19,” he said.

He informed Das on the other hand was diagnosed with COVID-19 with type-1 respiratory failure with multiple seizures with status epilepticus with aspiration pneumonia.

Dr War said the 117 new cases include 53 from East Khasi Hills district, 47 West Garo Hills district, 8 South Garo Hills district, 5 South West Garo Hills district, 2 East Jaintia Hills district, 1 Ri Bhoi district and 1 West Khasi Hills district.

Those tested positive also include 15 armed forces/paramilitary forces personnel and 3 police personnel from East Khasi Hills and four health workers that include 2 from South West Garo Hills, 1 from West Garo Hills and 1 from East Khasi Hills.

Of the 78 persons who recovered from the viral infection, Dr War said 24 are from East Khasi Hills, 20 East Garo Hills, 12 West Garo Hills, 9 West Jaintia Hills, 7 Ri Bhoi, 3 East Jaintia Hills, 2 South West Garo Hills and 1 North Garo Hills.

So far, the state has detected a total of 11,269 COVID-19 cases out of which 925 are active cases, 10,236 recovered and 108 deaths.

Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 427 positive cases, West Garo Hills 229, East Garo Hills 72, Ri Bhoi 58, South West Garo Hills 32, South Garo Hills 36, West Khasi Hills 27, East Jaintia Hills 22, West Jaintia Hills 13 and North Garo Hills 9.

“Till date, swab samples of 2,28,455 persons have been tested of which 2,17,186 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.

There are 61,130 entrants from outside the state.
