SHILLONG, NOV 11: Coal miners in Meghalaya will file a review petition on the transportation guidelines before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) because of alleged discrepancy in the declared and the assessment of coal.
The decision was made after the NGT disposed off an application filed by the State Coordination Committee of Coal Owners, Miners and Dealers Forum (SCCCOMDF). The application was heard in New Delhi today.
In its application the forum requested the NGT to re-examine the direction and order for payment of royalty on coal which has discrepancy in the declared and the assessment of coal.
According to the forum, due to this majority of the coal miners are facing difficulties in paying the royalties because the declared coal is more than what have been actually assessed by the NGT constituted committee.
The NGT while leaving the argument open disposed off the application, paving way for the coal miners to open up the provision for review of the transportation guidelines.
“In view of this, we have decided to immediately file a review petition of the transportation guidelines within a week’s time,” SCCCOMDF chairman Sonny Khyriem said.
The Supreme Court in its order passed of September 21 has allowed the transportation of the extracted coal with effect from October 1 to May 31, 2017.-By Our Reporter
