SHILLONG, APR 2: Two armed militants shot a wine store manager at Williamnagar market in East Garo hills district on Wednesday even and police are suspecting that the ANVC(B) is behind the attack.
The incident took place at around 1.15 pm when two armed militants came to wine shop and shot the manager identified as Shushil Sangma, East Garo hills SP Davis Marak said.
He said the militants immediately fled away after shooting Sangma who is said to have sustained critical bullet injuries on his leg.
Sangma was immediately taken to a hospital in Williamnagar and later shifted to Tura Civil hospital for proper treatment, the SP informed adding that the victim is critical due to the loss of blood.
Police also recovered one .32 pistol with empty shell from the place of incident.
During preliminary investigation, police suspected the handiwork of the ANVC (B) militants who had served demand notes in almost all the wine stores in Williamnagar and extorting in the name of its splinter groups – Matchadu Matchabet (MM), ATF and UALA and other newly floated militant outfits, the SP disclosed.
A case has been registered and security forces have launched operation in and around the area to nab the militants, SP said.- By Our Reporter
