TURA, JULY 30: In a shocking case, a 30-year-old lady school teacher was on Wednesday abducted by suspected A’chik National Liberation Cooperation Army (ANLCA) militants from a remote village in North Garo hills district.
The teacher identified as Sandai Sangma was on her scooter when she was allegedly stopped and kidnapped on gunpoint at Dokasaram, near Resubelpara about 120 km from Tura.
The incident took place around 1:30 pm. In July, three teachers were abducted by militants.
“The location is remote as such there is no confirmations as to how many people were there. We have found her scooter close to Dokasaram. We strongly suspect it to be the handiwork of ANLCA”, said Jerry Marak, SP of North Garo hills.
The North Garo Hills Primary School teachers Association has condemn the kidnapping. “The kidnapping is a very sad day for us. She was working for the children in a remote village where most are hesitant to go”, said a statement from the association.
In another similar case, 27 years old Tenybirth Momin, son of a sub-inspector CK Marak was also kidnapped from Domeanti, near Resubelpara in North Garo hills on Sunday. Police say that the abductors have demanded a ransom of Rs. 15 lakh for his release. Operation is on to rescue Momin.- From Our Correspondent
