SHILLONG, APR 14: A GNLA militant was arrested while two others are suspected to be injured in a gun battle between the security force and the ultras in a jungle near Kherapara village in West Garo hills district on Tuesday night.
A police official said, “Unconfirmed reports indicated that at least two more GNLA militants were injured in this encounter.” The Meghalaya police have launched a anti-insurgent operations called the ‘Hailstorm-II’ against the GNLA and other militant oufits operating in the five districts of Garo hills region.
According to the police official, GNLA’s top leader-Hadeo and his group started opening fire on seeing the police operation team and the latter retaliated. Police recovered one powerful IED and arrested one GNLA militant after the encounter.
“GNLA has been trying to use this IED against security force for the last ten days,” the senior police official informed. In the second phase of the ‘Hailstorm Operation’ by security forces more than five militant camps have been busted besides the killing of three militants.-By Our Reporter
