SHILLONG, APR 20: A top official of the MHA today said a lot of progress has been made in the implementation of the Agreed Text of Settlement signed with the disbanded Garo rebels – the ANVC and its breakaway faction ANVC.B even as a review meeting will be held next month.
The Joint Secretary of Home in-charge North East Satyendra Garg arrived in the state capital here and held a meeting with senior officials of the state government to discuss on the progress made in the implementation of the peace pact.
“A lot of progress has been made in as far as the rehabilitation of the cadres is concerned,” Garg told reporters after the meeting which he informed was called in a short notice.
Informing that a formal review meeting on the matter will be held likely by next month, he said that the upcoming review meeting would also be attended by all stakeholders including the leaders of the ANVC-B.
Stating that there is some delay in rehabilitation for ANVC.B due to some issues, he said “There are certain norms required to be followed during the process and we have been briefed by the state government on this and they will address it.”
With regards to ANVC, he said that there are no issues with the process of rehabilitation for the ANVC. “But still if any body has any point, we will take it up,” he said.
The MHA official also said that the Centre government is satisfied with the progress made in this connection adding that the issue of rehabilitation was also discussed at the Centre government level once.
Reminding that all cadres who have surrendered or have disbanded have ground rules, he said that they have to follow those rules failing which they would be liable for legal action.
