SHILLONG, JAN 3: The Social Welfare Association (SWA) CEC of New Bhaitbari in West Garo hills has alleged that the job card holders of the MGNREGA under Selsella C & RD block and the other block office of West Garo Hills are not paid wages on time which is affecting the livelihood of the poor.
A statement issued here by SWA general secretary Sofior Rahman besides the untimely payment the VECs and wage seekers in Selsella block are not getting one hundred days of employment every year though the scheme guarantee 100 man day’s employment.
Quoting the guidelines of the MGNREG Act 2005, Rahman said “ It is essential to ensure that Wages are paid on time, workers are entitled to being paid on a weekly basis, and in any case within a fortnight of the date on which work was done(NREGA, Section 3(3)). In the event of any delay in wages payments, workers are entitled to compensation as per the provision of the payment of wages Act 1936 (NREGA schedule II, section 30) compensation costs shall be borne by the State Government.”
The SWA filed an RTI with the Selsella C & RD Block regarding MGNREGS fund and details but the block office has not furnish the information till today and unhappy with the delay, the SWA has now decided to approach the Chief information Commissioner.
Rahman also accused of rampant corruption in the Scheme of IAY 2013-14, alleging that the block office has not selected the IAY beneficiaries as per the criteria
The SWA has requested state chief secretary to conduct a CBI enquiry in the Selsella C & RD block for the MGNREG scheme, IAY house and IAY (MSDP) as soon as possible to unearth corruption.- By Our Reporter
