SHILLONG, JUNE 17: Eleven men and one woman were arrested, which includes headman and secretary of Mawmyrsiang village, in Sohra on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a stranger who was passing through the village alleging that he was “Menshohnoh.”
The villagers claimed that he was moving suspiciously and branded him a Menshohnoh. The villagers then assaulted him injuring him seriously. The Shillong and Sohra police along with the magistrate rushed to the village to rescue the stranger. He was taken the Swer PHC where he was given first aid and later shifted to the Shillong Civil Hospital.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang informed that eleven men and one woman were arrested for assaulting the stranger. He said among those arrested include the village headman and secretary. He warned that any person or persons found to be harming others based on superstitious belief will be firmly deal with and the rule of law will prevail.- By Our Reporter
Kudos to the cops in this case…they deserve to be patted..but I wish the rule of law prevailed for the Education scam too where many candidates are deprived of a chance to earn a living, and the FIR is still in a shelf somewhere…I wish the rule of law prevailed when taking action against those who forged land documents in the lapsed New Shillong township project…..
