“The people of Meghalaya will vote against the BJP’s Hindutva culture and divide, destroy & distract politics in the coming elections,” Gogoi told reporters here on Thursday.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) top leader is in the state’s capital to campaign against three years completion of Modi government.
This came a day after the BJP had accused the Congress of playing “dirty-tricks” and adopting a strategy of “spit and run” by allegedly spreading false and fabricated rumours with regards to issues related to beef ban and cow slaughter.
Stating there is need to constantly evaluate and understand the true intention of the government, he said, “This BJP led government has come up with its 3 Ds model which seeks to divide the people on their food, what they wear, their religion, and on the basis of language.”
Gogoi said that the recent notification on Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules, 2017, which he alleged is the BJP’s cow politics, has affected cattle traders and led to the rise of cow vigilantism.
He also referred to the recent in Madras where students protesting and demanding for their eating culture right were beaten up.
Claiming that the people will also vote against Modi’s false promises, Gogoi said instead of providing the 2 crore jobs promised by the prime minister, youths were encourage to form Gau-rakshas.
“Many FIRs have been filed against the youths in which their future job prospects now have become very bleak,” he said.
Alleging that the recent notification has played another role in destroying the rural economy, the AICC spokesman said farmer suicide cases has in fact risen more during the past 3 years because the BJP cares more about the big corporate than the farmers.
He further stated that BJP’s demonetization drive has also destroyed the economy of the country which has witnessed a drop by 6.1 per cent.
“To hide their failures, they spend crores of rupees on newspapers, televisions and social media advertisements by misusing public fund for their own marketing and interest instead investing on schemes for health and others,” he added.
On corruption, the AICC leader said that the BJP has failed to do anything on corruption and instead is protecting chief ministers and ministers linked to corruptions and scandals.
He alleged that there was no action till date against an MHA official who is related to the Union Minister of State, Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, for his involvement in a scam related to a hydro electric project.
“These big talks on corruption are all cheap gimmicks when all such people are going and joining the BJP,” he said.
