Meghalaya will get ILP if BJP is voted to power: Shullai

SHILLONG, DEC 15: BJP leader and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai on Thursday categorically stated that Meghalaya will get ILP if a full-fledged BJP government is installed in the state.

“Give us 31 MLAs (to form a) full-fledged BJP government, we will give you whatever you want,” Shullai said when responding to a query pertaining to the delay of the Centre to implement the ILP and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

Endorsing his statement, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said, “As Sanbor Shullai had said give us a chance to be in power, we will do the needful.”

Mawrie informed that he had taken up the language issue and the Centre is still examining the matter.

The state BJP today also welcomed the three former MLAs – Himalaya Shangpliang, Benedic R Marak and Ferlin CA Sangma – and sitting Independent MLA from Baghmara Samuel M Sangma – at a meeting held at the party office.

When asked, Mawrie said that two more sitting legislators have approached the party. “We are on the way to discuss with them,” he added.

On the other hand, the state president said that the question of pulling out of the MDA government has been entrusted to the central leadership. “We are waiting for them to take the call as it is not in our hands,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Mawrie informed that the state party had recently attended the national office bearers meeting held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 6 and 7.

“We also had a meeting with the union home minister Amit Shah along with national president JP Nadda and national organizing secretary BL Santoshji to discuss strategy on how to strengthen the party and identify more winnability seats,” he said.
