SHILLONG, MAR 27: The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) has teamed up with AIIMS New Delhi to set up a dedicated Burns Unit in Shillong, aiming to strengthen specialised care across the North East.
Discussions and planning for establishing the unit took place during a programme on ‘capacity building in burns care” held at the institute on Friday, with the objective of strengthening burns care services for the people of Meghalaya and the entire North Eastern region.
Addressing senior officials of NEIGRIHMS, Prof Maneesh Singhal, Head of Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, AIIMS New Delhi provided expert guidance on key components required for establishing a modern state-of-the-art Burns Unit, including site selection, infrastructure planning, manpower and human resources, and essential medical equipment.
It was emphasized that a dedicated burns unit required coordinated efforts from multiple departments, including clinical, para-clinical, paramedical, and administrative sections, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
AIIMS New Delhi has pledged long-term support and collaboration with NEIGRIHMS for strengthening burn care services in the region.
The collaboration will include structured training programs, capacity building, manpower development, and joint research initiatives in burn management.
This initiative marks an important step towards strengthening specialized burn care services in the region and improving outcomes for burn patients across Northeast India.
