State logged on to online policing system

DGP Kulbir Krishan luanched the CCTNS for the police stations in Meghalaya here on Monday (TM)SHILLONG, JAN 14: Crime and criminal network and system (CCTNS), an country-wide initiative of the Union home ministry to provide better policing to the citizens, including online registration of complaints, was launched in Meghalaya on Monday.

The project will be implemented in 96 police stations and outposts in the state. Nationwide the plan is to cover more than 14, 000 police stations under the project. The Union home ministry has sanctioned Rs 2000 crore to implement the project in the 35 states and union territories in the country.

Launching the project at the Sadar police station here, Meghalaya director general of police Kulbir Krishan said the programme was one of the most revolutionary concepts aimed at making the police stations citizen-friendly and more transparent by automating their functioning. “CCTNS aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effective policing at all levels and especially at the police stations level,” he said.

The DGP said the main benefit of the project to the citizens is that it they will be able to register and lodge their complaints online without having to go to the police stations. The CCTNS, he said,  also provides information for effective criminal investigation, online availability of routine reports pertaining to crime and criminal investigation, creates online monitoring for effective supervision by senior officers.

The police chief said policemen right from the officers down to the constable level were provided training to ensure smooth implementation of the project. He said the project is first being implemented in the four police stations of Sadar, Laban, Tura and Dalu. “Very soon the project will be extended to different police stations and police outposts in the state,” he added. (By Our Reporter)
