SHILLONG, FEB 2: Community & Rural Development Minister Sosthenes Sohtun on Monday lauded the transition to the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, saying it will benefit Meghalaya’s rural population.
The new scheme replaces MGNREGA and offers increased allocation for 125 days, covering rural schools and potentially hiking the budget from 1200-1500 to 2000.
“The state’s contribution to materials drops from 25% to 10%, benefiting job card holders and unskilled workers,” Sohtun said.
He emphasized transparency, allowing VECs and job card holders to monitor work and benefits, and directed officials to prevent fund misuse.
Addressing internet connectivity issues for eKYC, Sohtun assured efforts to improve infrastructure. “I’ll take it up with the Chief Minister and gather VEC data to resolve this,” he said, highlighting the government’s focus on benefiting the people.
