Meghalaya Govt to release Rs 52 Cr for clearing salary to over 12,000 SSA teachers

SHILLONG, AUG 29: Adviser to the education department Himalaya M Shangpliang on Tuesday informed that the State government will soon release Rs 52 crore for clearing the salary of the SSA teachers.

“We will shortly be able to release Rs 52 crore, the capping salaries to all the SSA teachers,” Shangpliang told reporters at the sidelines of the conference cum felicitation proramm organized by the Meghalaya SSA Schools’ Association (MSSASA) at U Soso Tham Auditorium here.

He said that the State government had already released the first instalment in the month of June as assured by the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on the floor of the House in the Assembly session held earlier this year.

According to him, the arrears pending for the SSA teachers would also be released at the earliest possible.

The former legislator also informed that the government had already released the second instalment this month.

“Normally, we would like to release the second instalment in the month of December but due to availability of funds made available by the CM event he second instalment of the arrear has already been released this month and the process of releasing it to the respective teachers have already started,” he added.

Stating that the few initiatives taken by the government is for the benefit of the SSA teachers, Shangpliang said, “That is why we appeal to the SSA teachers that while we take care of their problems, we would also like to see that the standard of education in all SSA schools should be improved in the days to come.”

The felicitation progamme was organized as mark of honour in recognition of the State government tireless efforts and dedication to address the grievances faced by over 12,000 SSA teachers in Meghalaya.
