Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Thursday announced the government’s decision to introduce the ‘step marking system’ in the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE).
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “We are also planning to introduce a step marking system in the MBOSE.”
“So we will examine this and we will certainly decide whether this system will be introduced here in Meghalaya,” he added.
Asked, Sangma said the CBSE or ICSE patterns are adopting grading and marking systems in the evaluation process of the examination.
“What is happening is a question of 5 marks is set for mathematics. There is a process and system on how to put in the formula and how to calculate the algebra and the numerical – after completing all the systems and the process, finally the results came out wrong. As of now in our evaluation system if the result is wrong that becomes wrong but in the CBSE and ICSE patterns there is a step marking system. If the final result is wrong, the student will still get either 4 or 3 marks but now in the present evaluation system that becomes zero.”
“In the CBSE and ICSE pattern if the process is correct but in the last line the answer is wrong that student will still get 4 marks or 3 marks,” he added.
